Countries You Can Visit With a Japan Visa (2026 Guide for Indian Travelers)
If you already have a valid Japan visa, you're sitting on more than just a ticket to Tokyo. A handful of countries let Indian passport holders enter using that same visa no separate application needed.
This guide covers exactly which countries accept a Japan visa, how long you can stay, and what to carry at the border. No filler, no guesswork.
Quick answer: As of 2026, Indian passport holders with a valid Japan visa can enter Georgia, Mexico, Montenegro, the Philippines, Taiwan, and the UAE without a separate visa, plus get a 96-hour transit through Singapore. Stay limits range from 4 days to 180 days depending on the country.
Why Do These Countries Accept a Japan Visa?
Simple reason: trust. If you've already cleared Japan's visa process, these countries treat that as proof you're a low-risk traveler so they skip their own visa check.
It's the same logic that lets a valid US or Schengen visa work in several countries. Japan is just one more "trusted visa" on that list.
Note: This only applies to entering these specific countries, it does not mean Japan itself is visa-free for Indians. You still need a Japan visa to enter Japan, whether you apply for it yourself or get help with the process.

Country-by-Country Breakdown
Mexico
- Stay: Up to 180 days
- Requirement: Valid, in-force Japan visa (single or multiple entry)
- Extra document: Mexico's arrival form (FMM), completed on landing
- Good to know: This is officially confirmed by the Embassy of India in Mexico one of the most generous stay limits on this list
- Official source: Instituto Nacional de Migración
Georgia
- Stay: Up to 90 days
- Requirement: Valid Japan visa, single or multiple entry
- Extra document: Proof of onward/return travel
- Good to know: Full visa-free entry, no extra application needed
- Official source: Georgia Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Montenegro
- Stay: 30 days
- Requirement: Multiple-entry Japan visa only, a single-entry visa doesn't qualify
- Extra document: Must register your stay locally within 24 hours
- Good to know: Many blogs wrongly list this as 90 days. Official guidance says 30.
- Official source: Government of Montenegro
Philippines
- Stay: 14 days, extendable by 7 more
- Requirement: Valid Japan visa, single or multiple entry
- Extra document: Return or onward ticket
- Good to know: Great add-on if you're combining Japan with Southeast Asia
- Official source: Philippine Bureau of Immigration
Taiwan
- Stay: 14 days per entry (multiple entries allowed within 90 days)
- Requirement: Apply online for a Travel Authorization Certificate (TAC) using your Japan visa
- Extra document: Approved TAC printout, a Japan visa alone won't get you through immigration here
- Good to know: Apply a few days before you fly; approval is usually quick
- Official source: Taiwan Bureau of Consular Affairs
UAE
- Stay: Around 14 days (officer's discretion)
- Requirement: Valid Japan visa or Japan residence permit
- Extra document: Hotel booking, proof of onward travel
- Good to know: Issued as a visa on arrival, for longer or multiple-entry stays, apply for a UAE visa in advance instead
- Official source: UAE ICP
Singapore (transit only)
- Stay: Up to 96 hours
- Requirement: Japan visa valid for at least one more month, plus an onward ticket to a third country
- Good to know: This is a transit facility, not a standalone Singapore holiday, for that, you'll need Singapore's own eVisa
- Official source: Singapore ICA
One Big Caveat: eVisa vs Sticker Visa
Japan's eVisa (available to Indian residents since late 2025) has no physical sticker in your passport, you show a digital notice instead.
Most of the rules above were written with a physical visa sticker in mind. Whether the eVisa is treated the same way at every border isn't officially confirmed everywhere.
If one of these countries is a key part of your trip, it's safer to apply for the traditional sticker visa, or check directly with that country's embassy before you book.

5 Mistakes to Avoid
Assuming any Japan visa works everywhere - Montenegro needs multiple-entry.
Treating Singapore as a full visa-free stop - it's transit only, 96 hours.
Skipping Taiwan's TAC - a Japan visa alone won't get you in.
Forgetting Mexico's FMM form on arrival.
Booking non-refundable flights before verifying eligibility.
